Martin Odegaard, Arsenal captain, contract, PSG
According to latest reports, Arsenal are closing in on an agreement with Martin Odegaard over a new contract, with the club keen to secure the long-term future of their captain. The club reportedly view the Norwegian as a “non-transferable” player despite interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Europe.
Martin Odegaard has scored 4 goals in 8 appearances across all competitions this season, including match-winning goals against Chelsea and Napoli. His form has further underlined his importance to Mikel Arteta’s side and strengthened the club’s desire to keep him in North London.
The Norway international has less than two years remaining on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium, but the Gunners have made extending his stay a priority following his impressive start to the new campaign. The midfielder signed his previous contract extension in 2023.
According to transfer reporter Nicolo Schira, negotiations between Arsenal and Martin Odegaard are now at an advanced stage, with the club viewing the midfielder as a key part of their plans and having no intention of entertaining a sale. Writing on X, Schira said:
“Martin Odegaard is getting closer to extend his contract with Arsenal, which consider the captain a key-player and non-transferable. In fact Arsenal have turned down some approaches from Saudi and European top clubs in the last months.”
The 27-year-old remains an important figure in Arsenal’s midfield and has established himself as one of the key players in Arteta’s squad. The club’s determination to retain him also comes shortly after Mikel Arteta committed his own future to Arsenal by signing a new contract following last season’s Premier League title success.

Previously, there had been suggestions that the Gunners could consider a substantial offer for their captain, while Turkish giants Galatasaray were also linked with a potential move. However, those claims were subsequently dismissed, with sources describing reports of an imminent transfer to Turkey as “completely false”.
Meanwhile, TEAMtalk reported last week that Arsenal have begun negotiations with Odegaard’s representatives over a new deal and talks were progressing positively, with the player prepared to follow Arteta’s example and commit his future to the club. This represents a significant shift from the uncertainty surrounding the Norwegian earlier in the summer.
Despite speculation over his future during the summer transfer window, the North London side remained firm in their stance that the midfielder was not available for transfer. The club’s position appears to have been reinforced by the 27-year-old’s own desire to remain at the Emirates.
Martin Odegaard is understood to be keen to continue his career at Arsenal, with both parties now working towards finalising an agreement. The Gunners now appear focused on putting any remaining uncertainty to rest by securing Odegaard on a new long-term agreement.
With negotiations reportedly progressing well, the North London club will be hopeful of reaching a full agreement and retaining their captain as a central figure in Arteta’s plans. The news of a new long-term contract could be announced in the near future.
