Liverpool Women Edge Subway Players Cup Thriller in Added Time

Liverpool Women won 4-3 at Birmingham City in the Subway Players Cup Group Stage, West Ham come from behind against 10-player Southampton.

Birmingham City 3-4 Liverpool

Crystal Palace 3-0 Charlton Athletic

Durham 1-5 Manchester United

West Ham United 3-1 Southampton

Aston Villa 3-1 Newcastle United

Ipswich Town 0-1 London City Lionesses (Att: 1,283)

Liverpool edge a seven-goal thriller in stoppage time

Liverpool were ahead after four minutes through Marie Höbinger, but Marie Levasseur equalized half an hour later. Lee Geum-Min completed the turnaround after the interval, but just four minutes later the Reds were 3-2 up through Neve McDonald and a second for Höbinger. The Blues weren’t finished though as Wilma Leidhammar made it 3-3 but nor were the visitors as Natalia Ramos grabbed an added time decider.

Palace Secure Local Bragging Rights

Crystal Palace took the lead against Charlton Athletic with Shanade Hopcroft’s goal midway through the first half, and Kirsty Howat doubled it after the hour. Lexi Lloyd-Smith rounded off the scoring for Palace in stoppage time.

BWSL2 basement side Durham pegged Manchester United back before Eva Olid’s side ran out 5-1 winners.

Jess Simpson set up Rebeca Bernal as Manchester United soon got in front, but Durham were level eight minutes later through Lucy Watson. Dominique Janssen restored the advantage before the hour mark and Monica Jusu Bah extended it, Mared Griffiths and Elisabeth Terland added late goals.

West Ham come from behind against 10-player Southampton to claim all three points.

Ellie Brazil gave Southampton a surprise advantage just two minutes in, but they were reduced to 10 players before half-time with the dismissal of Alina Santos. Oona Siren hit back with a second-half double, Leila Wandeler netting inbetween.

Kendall double secures win for Villa

Aston Villa’s Lily Murphy opened the scoring against Newcastle United, but the BSWL2 leaders were level before the half-hour mark through Oona Sevenius. With seven minutes remaining in the 90, Lucia Kendall put Villa back ahead, and in added time she completed her brace.

London City leave it late

Ipswich Town held out against London City until the 90th minute, when Danielle van de Donk made the breakthrough for the Lionesses, aided by Freya Godfrey.

Holdt fires Spurs to victory

Tottenham got the only goal of the game away to Brighton approaching half time through Olivia Holdt, with the assist by Victoria Pelova.
