The Blues are reportedly making significant moves to secure the highly rated England international defender ahead of their London rivals.

The Stamford Bridge faithful could soon welcome a massive defensive reinforcement to their squad. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso is reportedly leading the charge to sign Bayer Leverkusen standout Jarrell Quansah. The impressive 23-year-old centre-back has caught the attention of several top European clubs following his stellar performances in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal recently attempted to secure his signature but saw their massive £55.5m bid firmly rejected by the German side this summer. The talented defender reportedly agreed personal terms with the Gunners but respectfully accepted his current club’s final decision to keep him.

Leverkusen originally acquired the promising Englishman from Liverpool in the summer of 2025 for an initial £30m fee plus additional performance bonuses. His current contract runs until 2030, putting the German outfit in a very strong negotiating position. However, Alonso and the Chelsea hierarchy have already made official contact regarding a potential blockbuster transfer.

European Heavyweights Circle The Highly Rated Defender

Securing the formidable defender will not be a straightforward task for the Blues. Real Madrid are scouting the player very closely and hope his close friendship with Jude Bellingham could tempt him to Spain. Meanwhile, Liverpool retain a massive £70m buyback option valid until next June and could trigger it if Virgil Van Dijk eventually departs Anfield.

Quansah previously explained his incredibly difficult decision to leave Merseyside to guarantee consistent playing minutes. “It was a really tough decision, to be honest, to walk away from my boyhood club,” he noted before the World Cup. He emphasised his strong desire to play at the absolute highest level week in and week out to prove his undeniable capabilities.
