Former Liverpool star Glenn Hysen has shared his disappointment at Alexander Isak again being struck down by injury after the Reds striker withdrew from the Sweden squad. The 27-year-old has enjoyed an eye-catching start to the season, scoring four goals from the first five Premier League games of the campaign before also netting in Sweden’s Nations League opener against Romania.
However, the striker suffered an injury in the same game which forced him to withdraw from the group.
Sweden boss Graham Potter later revealed Isak was suffering with a thigh issue, while Liverpool confirmed in a statement that he had returned to Merseyside because of a ‘minor injury’ and would now receive further medical assessment back at the AXA Training Centre.

Isak had previously endured a torrid first season with the Reds after joining from Newcastle United in a £125m following a summer-long pursuit that had even seen him go on strike at St. James’ Park in order to force the transfer.
The forward ultimately struggled for form and fitness in his first season with Liverpool, and was further disrupted after suffering a broken leg midway through the campaign.
Limited to just 22 appearances, he only scored four times for Arne Slot’s side. However, following an encouraging World Cup with Sweden, he had returned to form under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
With Isak’s injury said to be only minor, it remains to be seen if he will be fit for Liverpool’s return to club action against Man City on Sunday 11 October.
But former Reds title-winner Hysen has voiced his sympathy for his compatriot after the untimely setback, as he warned against risking further injury.
“It's a shame now that he's starting to get going,” he told Sportbibeln. “Because now he was really on the move and scored goals last time and is starting to get going in Liverpool.
“It feels like he's on the right track again. But unfortunately he got injured here. Then he'll have to rest for a while. It's better that he comes back healthy and well, so that he doesn't take a chance and it gets worse.
“I just feel sorry for him now that he is starting to get going again. It gives so much for Liverpool if he is fit too.
“As he was in Newcastle - now it is not the same type of game in Liverpool - but if he can get up to half of what he did in Newcastle then it is really good for Liverpool.”
