Liverpool injury update as fresh Hugo Ekitike claim emerges

Hugo Ekitike was a shining light for Liverpool last season despite their faltering Premier League title defence under Arne Slot.

The French international arrived at Anfield and immediately set the world alight with his performances before suffering an Achilles injury earlier this year.

Ekitike is yet to feature for Liverpool this season under Andoni Iraola as the Reds wait for him to return to full fitness.

And now, reports from France have confirmed that he has taken a big step towards returning to the grass.

Hugo Ektike to return for Liverpool in December

According to Loic Tanzi of L’Equipe, the 24-year-old recently spent a lot of time in Clairefontaine, France’s training camp and has also been to the USA to step up his recovery.

Ekitike is able to jog now and is on track to return by the end of the year.

However, he is only expected to rejoin Liverpool training in November, while his return to competitive action could be in December if his recovery goes as planned.

Currently, Liverpool have enough bodies in attack, so they will err on the side of caution with Ekitike.

However, his return would add another dimension to Iraola’s attack as the Reds continue to make progress under their new manager.
