Liverpool have reportedly been in contact over the possible signing of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, and it could be the exact signing they need to make.
During the previous summer transfer window, Liverpool had a big focus on strengthening their forward line.
The Reds might not have got all the attacking signings over the line that they would have hoped for, despite bringing in Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz.
Liverpool were reportedly pushing to sign Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr in the final days of the window, showing that they may have wanted at least one more in their forward line.
Something Liverpool failed to address in the market was their midfield, allowing Curtis Jones to leave Anfield without bringing in a replacement.
As a result, that could be their priority heading into 2027.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Liverpool are believed to be in constant contact with the camp of Real Madrid's Tchouameni over a possible move, despite the 24-year-old signing a new contract earlier this year.
Prising Tchouameni away from Madrid might not be easy for Liverpool. The French international started their previous two games before the international break, and is clearly a key part of Jose Mourinho's plans.
Despite that, playing in the Premier League is often a huge attraction for players, which could be used as a tool for the Reds to try to tempt him.
Tchouameni would undoubtedly come straight into Liverpool's midfield and be a starter, and it's no surprise that his former teammate Chema Andres has described him as 'the best defensive midfielder in the world'.

There's no doubt, adding Barcola to Liverpool's attack is a huge addition, not only for now but also for the future. The French international is a phenomenal forward with plenty of room to grow, but he's not going to control games like Tchouameni would.
Tchouameni, a colleague of Barcola when on international duty, is the engine of any team when deployed in the middle of the park. He's a player who is incredibly comfortable in possession, but also capable of putting himself about and winning it back.
Liverpool might not want to invest the same amount of money in Tchouameni as they did on Barcola, but there's no reason why they shouldn't be going big on a midfield in the near future.
Tchouameni would be a game-changing addition for Andoni Iraola, and Liverpool should be doing everything they can to try to convince him to make the move to Anfield in 2027.
