‘The guy’ – Thierry Henry blown away by Liverpool summer signing

Liverpool made four signings during the summer transfer window as Andoni Iraola replaced Arne Slot at the helm.

Jeremy Jacquet, Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz joined the club permanently, while Ronald Araujo sealed a surprise loan move to Anfield from Barcelona.

Barcola is still getting to grips with English football, but the others have already made big impressions at Liverpool.

And Jacquet, in particular, looks destined for the very top, starting all of the Reds’ games in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

And Thierry Henry, who knows a thing or two about French footballers, feels the young defender was always destined for greatness.

Thierry Henry lauds Jeremy Jacquet

“When I was the coach of the Under-21s, I wanted to call him up,” said Henry via Betway.

“He was only 16 or 17, but he didn’t come because he had to take his exams.

“As much as he concentrated on football, he was also concentrating on getting his degrees. He’s very on-point in his head, and his family knows what he needs to do and how he can be successful.

“People told me that he has always been seen as ‘the guy’, but it doesn’t always work that way.

“Many times I’ve seen players who were ‘the guy’ at that age turn out not to be the guy, while sometimes it does go the other way.

“You can see that he already understands what he needs to do, especially in the physical part of the game. It also helps if you play alongside Virgil.

“But am I surprised with him dealing with the level of expectation? No, not really, because he was always in that situation in the youth system in France.”

Jacquet recently made his debut for the French national team under Zinedine Zidane and looked like an old head as he dominated proceedings right from the get-go.

Liverpool won’t want to get too ahead of themselves, but it certainly feels like they have signed an absolute superstar in the making.
