The Premier League returns on October 10 with reigning champions Arsenal facing Leeds United.

The Gunners suffered a shock 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton and Hove Albion in their last outing, allowing Manchester City to leapfrog them into top spot.

Mikel Arteta will be desperate to see his side get back to winning ways against Leeds, although the Whites have also enjoyed an impressive start to the new campaign and are currently unbeaten after five matches.

Ahead of their game against Leeds, it is emerging that Arsenal are considering a spectacular move to sign an England defender to bolster Arteta’s squad.

As per German outlet Fussball News, via CaughtOffside, the Gunners are contemplating a move to sign full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold from Real Madrid.

The Englishman joined Real in 2025, having made more than 350 appearances for former club Liverpool during a hugely successful spell with his boyhood club.

Since moving to Spain, the 27-year-old has played 40 times for his new club in all competitions, providing eight assists.

He has been a notable omission from several England squads over the past few years – under both Gareth Southgate and, more recently, Thomas Tuchel – but the latter recalled him to the Three Lions group for the current international break.

The report suggests that Arsenal are considering a move for the ex-Liverpool man, with Real Madrid likely to be willing to negotiate a deal for a fee in the region of £60-70 million.

Alexander-Arnold’s current contract with Los Blancos is set to run until the end of the 2030/31 campaign, but it appears that Arsenal could attempt to lure him back to England in the coming months.

Arsenal’s current first-choice right-back, Jurrien Timber, has suffered with frequent injuries throughout his time in north London.
