Alexis Mac Allister is facing an uncertain future at Liverpool, which has seemingly put Real Madrid on high alert.

According to reports in England, as relayed by Bernabeu Digital, the Premier League club do not intend to renew his contract, which runs until 2028.

As such, both the club and the midfielder are understood to be open to a summer 2027 departure. That situation has attracted the attention of Real Madrid, who are monitoring the Argentine closely.

The Spanish giants see Mac Allister as one of the potential targets to strengthen their midfield unit should his departure from Liverpool materialise next year.

Real Madrid continue to look for a midfielder

Real Madrid remain interested in strengthening their midfield, an area that was one of their priorities during the summer transfer window.

The club considered Rodri, who ended up signing for FC Barcelona instead. Meanwhile, with Eduardo Camavinga remaining at the Santiago Bernabeu, there was ultimately no room for another midfield signing.

The situation could change in future transfer windows, particularly if departures create space in the squad.

Mac Allister was already on the shortlist

Now, as per the report, Mac Allister was among Real Madrid’s preferred midfield targets during the summer.

The Argentine was considered after Enzo Fernandez and Rodri on the club’s list, with the latter eventually emerging as the preferred option, although that move did not materialise.

Mac Allister could therefore return to consideration ahead of summer 2027, particularly if his situation at Liverpool creates an opportunity in the market.

According to the report, Liverpool could also be receptive to a transfer because of their intention not to renew the midfielder’s contract.

What Mac Allister has said about his contract situation

Discussing his contract situation recently, Mac Allister said (h/t Sky Sports): “As everyone knows, I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which makes me very, very sad.

“Of course, there is still time. The fans don’t need to worry because I will give my 100 per cent until the last day I’m here.

“We will see what happens. There were options to leave this summer, and I think right now I’m in the right club and I have the mindset to give my 100 per cent for this club.”

It remains to be seen how the situation evolves, but Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation, ready to move if Liverpool opt not to renew.
