Harrison Armstrong promoted to England U21 squad after Miley withdrawal

Harrison Armstrong has been promoted to the England Under-21 squad after Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley withdrew from international duty.

The Everton youngster had been away with England Under-20s during the current break but will now step up to join Lee Carsley’s group.

Mark Douglas reported the change on Thursday afternoon, with Armstrong replacing Miley in the squad.

Armstrong steps up to England U21s

Armstrong has already played twice for the Under-20s during this international window, starting against Italy before coming off the bench in Tuesday’s victory over France.

The midfielder has played more than 120 minutes across those two appearances but will now have the chance to make his England Under-21 debut.

Carsley’s side face Slovakia at Stoke City Stadium on Friday evening before travelling to Cork to play Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.

Armstrong joins fellow Everton players Tyler Dibling and Tyrique George in the U21 group. Both featured in the 4-2 win over Kazakhstan last week, with George introduced during the first half and Dibling coming on after 79 minutes.

Armstrong’s promotion also adds another name to Everton’s sizeable international contingent.
