An independent panel found Manchester City arranged "sham" contracts with sponsors to inflate commercial earnings, filed "misstated" accounts to conceal finances, and "significantly" breached Premier League and UEFA spend limits, according to a top-flight statement.

The claim from the panel is that City inflated their commercial revenue by £830 million between 2009 and 2018, while sanctions issued to the club will now be decided in a separate hearing.

From the side of Manchester City, they have always and continue to deny any wrongdoing, while stating that they are both "disappointed and surprised" by the ruling released on Tuesday afternoon.

The club and key figures such as chief executive officer Ferran Soriano have made clear that they would appeal the verdict and be "relentless" in their fight to clear Manchester City's name in the matter.

In the background, whilst City continue to launch their appeal and fine-tune their arguments against the decision, several other parties continue to assess options in anticipation for the guilty verdict standing.

Players seek legal advice after Man City verdict

Now, according to Sky Sports News, players and their representatives have contacted lawyers over potential claims against Manchester City in light of the club's guilty verdict confirmed by the Premier League.

It is explained that players are currently consulting lawyers over missed bonuses in their contracts, whether that be from missing out on a domestic trophy, or on qualification for European competition.

What have Man City players and staff said?

As things stand, no Manchester City players or the club's manager Enzo Maresca have commented on the matter, with the full focus being on international duties with their respective countries during the ongoing pause for action across the globe.

City captain Ruben Dias refused to answer a line of questioning on the matter whilst representing Portugal, instead pointing towards the fact that he would only be commenting on his nation and challenges in the UEFA Nations League.

Beyond the international break, Manchester City will next be in action against Liverpool at Anfield, with Enzo Maresca due to face the media in his pre-match press conference on Friday 9 October.

The Italian head coach has already been quizzed on the matter once as City boss, saying of the 115 charges towards the end of July, “The only thing I can say is three years ago, the Treble season, I was here and it was the same words about this."

Maresca continued at the time, "In three years, it’s still the same. Nothing has happened. I don’t have anything to say because it’s something that's there.

"But again, the only thing I can say is the way the organisation is working shows how serious they are, how good they are, bringing titles and more things."

After facing Liverpool, the club will then return to the Etihad Stadium for the first time since the guilty verdict issued by the Premier League, as they welcome Paris Saint-Germain on matchday two of the UEFA Champions League's league phase.
