Light at the end of the tunnel for Liverpool man – Reds not rushing

**[Liverpool](https://sportwitness.co.uk/liverpool/) defender Giovanni Leoni is ‘beginning to see light’ at the end of the tunnel of his injury nightmare, but the Reds are taking matters cautiously.**

The youngster joined Liverpool in a €29.45m deal from Parma last summer as the Reds looked to the future in their defence.

But the defender has managed just one appearance worth 81 minutes to date, a 2-1 win over Southampton in the EFL Cup in September 2025.

He suffered a cruciate ligament tear in that game which has since seem him miss 56 games for the Reds. He is expected to return from it in the coming weeks.

[Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/leoni-inizia-vedere-luce-fondo-tunnel-liverpool-aspetta-affrettare-tempi-2278780) now report that the 19-year-old ‘is beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel’. They state that the centre-back is preparing to join Liverpool’s squad in training and is looking to the future optimism.

He is very much still in the recovery phase after his injury, to be clear. But encouraging news is starting to emerge and it seems there is positivity at Anfield that he will be seen sooner rather than later.

Liverpool have no intention of rushing him either way. They already have Virgil van Dijk and Jeremy Jacquet at centre-back. Ronald Araujo is also able to fill in the position as well. So, they are well covered for the time being.

**Jacquet comfort**

Indeed, it will be interesting to see what the plan is for Leoni now that Jacquet has enjoyed such a strong start to life at Anfield.

He now appears to be the first choice alongside Van Dijk. He has certainly earned that status with his first handful of performances since the beginning of the season.

That’s a problem for the future. For now, Leoni is just focused on the light at the end of the tunnel. He can see the end and the opportunity to get back to full fitness following his injury nightmare.
