John Terry and other Chelsea supporters would have been concerned after watching the Blues lose against Brentford before the international break.
Xabi Alonso’s side were well beaten at the Gtech Community Stadium, losing 3-0 to the home side. Before that, they also dropped points against Hull City after drawing 2-2.
Chelsea started the season strongly, winning their first two games against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion. However, they have not claimed three points since their 4-3 victory over the Seagulls.
Nevertheless, Terry is still hopeful of a top-four finish, though there is clearly a lot of work to do. Chelsea currently sit in 10th place on seven points.
Speaking to former England teammate and ex-Arsenal forward Theo Walcott in a video posted on his official TikTok account, Terry said: “Since that game [Arsenal], we’ve been hit and miss, to be honest. I think that’s going to be our season, but I’m still hopeful of top four.”
Chelsea will likely have to sign a new midfielder in January if they want to finish in the top four this season. It has been a problem position for them following Moises Caicedo’s injury and Enzo Fernandez’s departure.
One midfielder they could bid for is Bournemouth’s Alex Scott. Chelsea were keen on the 23-year-old in the summer transfer window, and their interest has not disappeared. However, he will not come cheap.
It has been claimed that Chelsea could have to pay over £100m to sign Scott in January. The club are also being linked with AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara after failing to sign him on deadline day.
Unless they can move on Wesley Fofana or loan out Josh Acheampong, what Chelsea do not need is a centre-back. Yet that has not stopped them from showing interest in a couple of names in that position.
The latest is Bayer Leverkusen and England star Jarell Quansah. It is being reported that Chelsea are keen on Quansah, who has really flourished since leaving Liverpool for Germany.
