Arsenal began the 2026/27 season in dominant fashion, unbeaten in all competitions, until before the international break when they faced Brighton in the Premier League and were beaten 3-0. Mikel Arteta’s men will be back in action on October 10 against Leeds United, but the Gunners may have to do it without summer signing Christos Tzolis, who pulled up in the Greece vs Netherlands game.

Arsenal Look to Bounce Back After International Break

Summer Signing Picks Up Injury

Aside from having a plethora of players on international duty, Arsenal received a huge boost with the news that Mikel Arteta has agreed to a new contract.

Christos Tzolis Picks Up Injury for Greece

Playing for Greece against the Netherlands, Arsenal’s summer signing Christos Tzolis has pulled up with what looks like a hamstring problem. Reports have surfaced that he looked disappointed with his shirt over his head. The injury happened after just 15 minutes, with the “bad news” reported by Harry Symeou.

Arteta will be hoping the injury is not as bad as feared, with Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli having both left the club this season, meaning the Gunners options out wide have dwindled.

The Last Word

There’s no doubting Arteta’s men are short of options out wide. Tzolis hasn’t hit the ground running since moving to North London, but he did score in his country’s recent 2-1 win against Serbia.

Arteta obviously believes in the Greek star, and letting go of Martinelli and Trossard only supported that notion. Last Word on Football believe Tzolis will be a success for the Gunners, and his new club will be hoping this injury scare is not as bad as first feared.
