Man Utd Eye£38m Jacobo Ramon Deal Ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal

Manchester United have reportedly entered the chase for Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon, with Chelsea and Arsenal also keeping tabs on the Spaniard, according to Caught Offside.

Why Man Utd Want a New Centre-Back

Having rebuilt their attack with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, United turned their attention to midfield this summer, bringing in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba after links with several bigger names.

The defence now looks like the next priority. United have shipped 11 goals in seven games across all competitions, and Michael Carrick’s options at right centre-back are far from convincing.

Matthijs de Ligt has been sidelined for close to a year with a back problem, while Leny Yoro has found the Premier League tough going since his move from Lille. Harry Maguire, meanwhile, is in the final months of his contract. Ramon’s recent displays have reportedly caught the eye at Old Trafford.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid Complicate Matters

United will face stiff competition. Chelsea signed Maxence Lacroix in the summer but have continued to look shaky at the back, and Xabi Alonso is believed to want further reinforcements.

Arsenal added Ezri Konsa after William Saliba’s back injury and already have Cristhian Mosquera, Jurrien Timber and Ben White for right-sided duties. A move for Ramon would therefore make more sense for the Gunners only if one of those players departs.

Real Madrid add another layer of difficulty, as they reportedly hold a buyback clause and are considering a return for the player.

Who Is Jacobo Ramon?

Ramon is a right-footed centre-back standing 6ft 5in, with Transfermarkt valuing him at around £38m. His height, physical presence and potential to improve make him an appealing long-term target.

Our Take

United’s need is real, and Ramon fits the profile of a young, athletic defender who could grow into the role. Yet the Real Madrid buyback clause is the biggest obstacle and could easily scare off suitors or inflate the price. Chelsea look the likeliest to move decisively, given their defensive record this season. Arsenal appear the least pressed to act, though they have a habit of pouncing on players others overlook.
