Joao Pedro has suffered a fresh injury blow at Chelsea, with the striker now seeing a knee specialist during the international break, as per the latest injury news. The Blues hope the treatment can speed up his comeback, but his next game is still unclear.
Chelsea injury blow grows
As reported by The Sun, Joao Pedro has been undergoing treatment in London under the care of a knee specialist. The 25-year-old was due to join Brazil after earning a recall, but he had to pull out because of the problem. He also missed the Blues’ 3-0 loss to Brentford before the break.Pedro first experienced discomfort following the 2-2 draw against Hull City on September 12. There was hope he could play against Brentford six days later, but that did not happen. Reports from Brazil suggested he could be out for up to four weeks.
Pedro has used the break to work on his recovery. A return against Bournemouth on October 10 has not been ruled out. However, there is still no confirmed date. Chelsea must wait before knowing when their key attacker can return. The timing is not ideal. Pedro had started the new Premier League season well and became a key part of Xabi Alonso’s attack. His absence was clear in the defeat to Brentford, where Chelsea failed to score.
Joao Pedro’s stats for the 2025-26 season, as per FOTMOB:
Competitions Matches Goals Assists
Premier League 35 15 5
EFL Cup 4 2 0
FA Cup 3 0 1
Champions League 8 3 0
Joao Pedro was flying before injury
Pedro scored three goals in his first four Premier League games this season and supplied three assists. Those numbers gave him a strong start after missing Brazil’s World Cup squad in the summer. His form also helped create a strong front three with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers. Pedro was named Premier League Player of the Month for August.
The Chelsea forward has also earned praise from his new manager. Alonso has spoken highly of Pedro’s maturity and ability to play in different roles. The manager compared his style to Karim Benzema. That makes his injury important for the Blues. Pedro is not just scoring goals. He also links play and helps the attack move as a unit. Without him, Alonso may need to change how the team plays.

Joao Pedro Brazil setback adds to frustration
The specialist visit comes after Pedro withdrew from Brazil duty because of the knee problem. The striker had only recently earned another call-up after missing the summer football World Cup, making the injury frustrating. The break has given him time to focus on treatment. Chelsea players who were not away with their countries were given some days off, but Pedro has used the period for recovery.
The Blues are also managing other fitness worries. Cole Palmer withdrew from England duty, while Reece James and Moises Caicedo also missed the international window. Alonso is waiting for several important players before the league resumes. For Pedro, the aim is simple, he needs to recover without rushing back.
Author’s Opinion
Joao Pedro has started this season well, so Chelsea will miss him. Seeing a knee specialist shows he is taking the problem seriously. A careful return matters most now. Rushing him back would bring more risk for the player and the team.
