Florian Wirtz has been hailed as “incredible” by two of Bayern Munich’s stars after his match-winning display for Germany against Serbia.

‌

The Liverpool forward put his struggles at Anfield behind him as he inspired his country to a 2-0 win on Thursday - Jurgen Klopp’s first in charge of Germany. Wirtz scored and played a big hand in Tom Bischof’s opener, with his strike coming back off the post and into the path of the Bayern Munich midfielder to smash the ball home.

Wirtz’s all-round display has been hailed, with the 23-year-old having pulled the strings for Klopp’s side, earning him a glowing review from the former Liverpool boss.

And while his decision to turn down a move to Bavaria in favor of Anfield last year didn’t prove too popular with Bayern’s chiefs, the German giant’s players are clearly holding no grudges.

Bischof, who joined Bayern last summer from Hoffenheim, was the biggest beneficiary from Wirtz’s performance after notching up his first international goal, and he couldn’t hide his admiration for the Liverpool star as he spoke to reporters after the game.

“He is a brilliant footballer, one that I’ve been able to experience live with on the pitch for the second time and he just understands football with so much insight,” Bischof said.

“I believe when he delivers this performance on the pitch he just helps us immensely.”

And Bischof wasn’t the only Bayern star enamoured with Wirtz’s performance, with Serge Gnabry - who handed over the captain’s armband to the Reds ace in the second half - in doubt about his quality.

When it was put to him that Wirtz looked “liberated” and “world class” against Serbia, Gnabry replied: “Exactly like you said. He was incredible today, incredible.”

Wirtz will get another chance to make his mark for his country when Germany travels to Greece on Sunday, where Klopp’s side will be looking to get some revenge for the 1-0 defeat to the same opponent earlier this week.

From there, Wirtz will head back to Anfield, where his place in Andoni Iraola’s side has come under scrutiny amid his recent performances, although his latest showing may hold him in good stead ahead of the visit of Manchester City on October 11.

"It was incredibly enjoyable,” Wirtz said after Germany’s win. “I think every single player gave everything on the pitch today and followed the game plan.

“We got almost everything right today. Wearing the captain’s armband is something special. It makes you proud. I just tried to give everything I had on the pitch.

“The players around me also made it very easy for me today. There was a lot of movement in our game, and we were all eager to play football. That makes it easier to shine."
