**Reports have linked Liverpool with a move to re-sign Lyon star Tyler Morton, but Newcastle United are also interested in bringing him back to the Premier League.**
Football Insider reported earlier this week that Liverpool are eyeing a January move to bring the 23-year-old back to Merseyside. The Reds are reportedly keeping tabs on him, but FI now report that Newcastle are also considering signing Morton.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/newcastle-united/newcastle-working-on-deal-to-sign-tyler-morton): _“Newcastle will be fully aware of Morton and how he’s been performing over in France._
_“They’ll have scouts over there watching him regularly, so they’ll know all of the pros and cons of his game, and they’ll know how he is behind the scenes as well._
_“These clubs are always doing their due dilligence, they want to find out what sort of character he is, how he performs in training, what was the reason he left Liverpool?_
_“It’s something they will be working on behind the scenes, even if eventually they end up looking elsewhere, because they have to know these things._
_“Newcastle will know all about him, and we know that they still need to strengthen in midfield, I’m not convinced they were completely satisfied with their business in the summer._
_“Morton could be a good option to strengthen in that position, especially if he continues to perform will in France, and he could be tempted back to the Premier League.”_
Liverpool sold Morton for £15m: How much would it cost to sign him?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Given that the midfield transfer market was inflated beyond reason in the 2026 summer transfer window and Morton has a contract with Lyon until 2030, it’s likely to be an overly expensive operation to bring him back to England.
Then there’s the fact that clubs are entitled to demand more than market value to release a player mid-season in the January transfer window and signing him at the turn of the year becomes unlikely.
Even if Morton wanted the move, it would not make financial sense to sign him in January.
[It would make more sense to sign Lamine Camara](https://live4liverpool.com/other-opportunities-will-come-lamine-camara-addresses-future-amid-liverpool-interest/) in the winter window after AS Monaco dropped his price from €70m (£60m) to €55m (£46m) for Chelsea at the end of the summer transfer window.
