Federico Chiesa wanted by three Serie A clubs ahead of 2027 January transfer window

Federico Chiesa is being targeted by three Serie A clubs ahead of the January 2027 transfer window, which is set to open on Friday, January 1.

Chiesa joined Liverpool from Juventus in August 2024 but has struggled to establish himself at Anfield. The Italy international was also left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad this season.

The former Juventus and Fiorentina forward has continued to battle fitness issues and is yet to feature this season for the Reds.

Following Arne Slot’s departure and Andoni Iraola’s arrival, Chiesa had hoped to revive his Liverpool career, but that has not happened.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Chiesa is ready to return to Serie A in search of regular football and a potential route back into the Italy squad.

There are currently no concrete negotiations, but Inter Milan, Atalanta and Lazio are monitoring his situation and could make a move during the January transfer window.

Chiesa is expected to return to group training next week, with a potential return against Manchester City on October 11.

After the international break, Liverpool face a busy schedule, playing every three days, and Chiesa will hope to earn more opportunities and climb the pecking order.

He currently finds himself behind Bradley Barcola, Cody Gakpo, Wirtz, Munoz and youngster Rio Ngumoha, who has established himself as a genuine alternative to the starters.

Chiesa still has plenty to offer. If he cannot find regular opportunities at Liverpool, he could leave in January. With 18 months remaining on his contract, regular playing time will be important for both the player and the club.

The 28-year-old also wants to revive his international career. His last appearance for the Azzurri came at Euro 2024, when Italy lost 2-0 to Switzerland in the round of 16 in Berlin.

Chiesa’s target will be to return to the national team ahead of the Euro 2028 qualification campaign. A return to Serie A could also open the door to an international comeback, with Chiesa yet to feature in new coach Roberto Mancini’s squads.
