Liverpool FC Women head coach Gareth Taylor has received the LMA’s Women’s Performance of the Week award after the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Everton at Anfield.

Goals from Beata Olsson and Cornelia Kapocs secured all three points in last Sunday’s Merseyside derby. A League Managers Association panel selected the result as the standout performance of the week in the women’s game.

Liverpool travel to the Progress With Unity Stadium to face Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, just six days after their derby victory.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Taylor admitted Liverpool had little time to celebrate the win due to their congested schedule.

“Any time you play a derby, it’s really important to win,” Taylor said. “We’ve tasted that, it’s a nice feeling. As a coach, it doesn’t last long; probably 10-20 minutes of celebration and then it’s onto the next game.

“We had a quick turnaround with a fixture against Birmingham on Wednesday night where we had to wrap people up in cotton wool with this game in mind two days later. Two games in six days is very tough just before the international break.”

Manchester United are in transition under new head coach Eva Olid, who was appointed over the summer, but Taylor still expects a closely contested encounter. Mao Itamura is set to be available, however, Lucy Parry, Sophie Roman Haug and Mari Ward have been ruled out.

Taylor said “They’re in a transition period with a new coach with new ideas, but they’ve got good players. It’s always a tight game, the margins are really tight.

“They were against Manchester City and Tottenham and I think this will be the same. The margins will be tight, but we want to come out on the right side of it.”

“We need to keep improving in all of the things that we have done well. Everything that we do, we need to keep turning it up a notch.

“We’d love to say that we are not going to pick up any more injuries in that second period because there are nine games when we come back [after the international break]. I think we have three games in a week straight after which is quite demanding, it’s quite a tough schedule.”
