Liverpool's Premier League rival Chelsea has been tipped to make a move for midfielder Alexis Mac Allister as he faces an uncertain future at Anfield.

‌

The Argentina international was signed by the Reds all the way back in 2023 as the club underwent a significant midfield rebuild. Liverpool swooped in early to trigger his release clause at Brighton, which stood in the region of £35 million ($46 million).

Since then, Mac Allister has gone on to make just shy of 160 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions. He has recorded 21 goals and the same number of assists in that time, while also being crowned a Premier League champion in 2025.

However, the future makeup of Liverpool's midfield remains uncertain, with Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai the two players who have penned long-term contract extensions in the last year. Mac Allister, on the other hand, has spoken openly about the possibility that his future lies elsewhere.

The midfielder broke his silence on his contract situation last month as he confirmed the club told him it is not currently in a position to offer him a new deal, a situation he admitted made him 'sad'. Since making the comments, Mac Allister has scored twice for Liverpool in the Champions League and Carabao Cup wins over Atletico Madrid and Tottenham, although it remains to be seen whether his current form prompts a rethink from the club's hierarchy.

In the meantime, speculation over his future is starting to ramp up as he enters the final two years of his deal. Former scout, now transfer consultant, Mick Brown has suggested league rival Chelsea could be a suitable destination in the event he departs in the upcoming windows.

"From a Liverpool point of view, if they're not going to offer him a new contract and he's coming out and speaking about that, they might think it's best to move him on," Brown explained in an interview with Football Insider.

"So when you look at what clubs might be interested, Chelsea are certainly high on that list, and he would be a good fit for them. They need a new midfielder, they lost Enzo Fernandez, and Mac Allister ticks a lot of boxes for them because he has got that bite and aggression to his game.

"Plus, he's got plenty of experience in the Premier League which will be important especially mid-way through the season. It's definitely something I can see happening."

Of course, Chelsea parted ways with Mac Allister's international teammate Enzo Fernandez in the summer. The midfielder completed a deadline-day move to Manchester City for a fee in the region of £125 million ($165.6 million).

If Chelsea were to pursue Mac Allister, however, it's likely it would not be his only suitor. The Liverpool star has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid, although speculation has always been played down by his representatives.
