Hungary secured only their second win in 12 UEFA Nations League matches after a 1-0 victory over Georgia at the Puskas Arena, with Milos Kerkez scoring the decisive goal.
Kerkez headed Hungary into the lead in the 35th minute after the hosts dominated the opening stages. Georgia pushed for an equaliser, but Hungary held on to claim all three points.
The goal was Kerkez’s first for Hungary since making his senior debut against Germany in the UEFA Nations League on September 23, 2022. The 22-year-old has now made 35 appearances for his country.
Kerkez became Hungary’s youngest player to feature at a European Championship in 60 years when he appeared at Euro 2024.
At club level, Kerkez has become Liverpool’s first-choice left-back this season following Andy Robertson’s exit. The 22-year-old has retained Andoni Iraola’s trust after impressing under him during his previous spell at Bournemouth.
Hungary had endured a disappointing start to their 2026-27 Nations League campaign, drawing 0-0 with Northern Ireland on Monday before losing 1-0 to Ukraine last Friday. However, Marco Rossi’s side secured their first victory thanks to Kerkez’s 35th-minute goal.
Kerkez joined Liverpool in the summer of 2025 from AFC Bournemouth after two impressive Premier League seasons.
He made 74 appearances for Bournemouth, recording eight assists and two goals. He joined the Cherries from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 after 18 months in the Netherlands.
Kerkez was also named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year before his move to Liverpool, where he made 48 appearances and scored twice in his debut season.
Kerkez began his football journey at OFK Vrbas before moving to Austria and joining Rapid Wien’s academy. He later joined Hungarian side ETO FC Gyir, where he made his senior debut as a 16-year-old in August 2020.
His performances caught the attention of AC Milan, who signed him in 2021 following a phone call with club legend Paolo Maldini. However, Kerkez struggled to break into the first team and later earned regular senior football at AZ Alkmaar.
Early in his first full Eredivisie season, Kerkez made his Hungary debut, qualifying to represent the country through his grandmother.
