The Treasury Committee are reported to have been contacted by His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs amid the ongoing case involving the Premier League. City were found guilty of all but one of the 115 charges brought against them by the English top flight earlier this week for financial breaches.

City still deny the charges and are maintaining their innocence, and confirmed on Friday that they have submitted an appeal after the report was submitted by the independent commission.

Sky Sports have reported that HMRC may hold an investigation over whether City paid the correct amount of tax after the guilty verdict emerged.

The accusations cover a nine-year spell between 2009 and 2018, throughout which City secured three Premier League crowns, one FA Cup and three League Cups.

It has been suggested that MP Dame Meg Hillier has written a letter to JP Marks, the HMRC secretary, enquiring whether they have been provided with a redacted copy of the Premier League's submitted report.

Within the letter, the MP is said to have written: "I would be interested in any common issues around taxation (including the taxation of remuneration) that you have found in their practices and how HMRC is tackling them."

The report indicates that Thursday, October 15 marks the cut-off date for a response.

City issued a statement on Friday confirming they had filed an appeal, as they deny the accusations brought against the club.

"Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2026 the Club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter," the statement read.

"The Club's firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.

"The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case.

"We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete."
