Liverpool’s attention might not be on transfers right now, but it won’t be long until the Reds may look at ways to bolster Andoni Iraola’s side.

The Spaniard has made a promising start to life at Anfield, but there are definitely some areas that could be improved, and with Julian Ward having now returned to his role as sporting director, he’ll be keeping a close eye on options ahead of the January window.

Iraola may find out more about his team when it returns from the international break against Manchester City, who might be a little distracted given recent events. Even if the Etihad club might be taken out of the running, Liverpool still faces plenty of competition for transfers.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Jarell Quansah (Bayer Leverkusen)

Real Madrid is scouting Jarell Quansah with a view to possibly signing the former Liverpool defender, according to German outlet Bild.

Quansah has impressed since joining Bayer Leverkusen last year, and has been touted for a return to Anfield as Virgil van Dijk’s contract nears its end. The Reds do have a buy-back option, which is reported to stand at around $74 million next summer.

Real though could scupper any plans to bring the 23-year-old back to Liverpool, while Arsenal could also be in the running, with the Gunners claimed to have already had a $74 million bid turned down.

Liverpool.com says: You'd have to say it wouldn't be a great look for Liverpool if Quansah ends up at either Real or Arsenal. Even buying him back next summer would raise a few eyebrows.

There was no doubt that he had the potential to be a top defender when he was at Anfield, and it was disappointing to see him offloaded last summer. If he continues to impress this season, it might be in the Reds' best interests to bring him back.

Gilberto Mora (Tijuana)

Gilberto Mora prefers a move to Spain rather than Liverpool next summer, according to Football Insider, despite the Reds’ ongoing links with the World Cup’s breakout star.

The 17-year-old has been touted for a move to Anfield after impressing during the summer’s tournament, and is already said to be on the radar of some of Europe’s other top clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Liverpool is claimed to have kept tabs on Mora for several seasons now, but the teenager is said to prefer a move to La Liga rather than the Premier League. His current club, Xolos de Tijuana, reportedly wants at least $53 million for his signing next summer.

Liverpool.com says: Mora certainly looked like he could be something special during the World Cup, and it's no surprise that he's already being eyed up for a move to Europe.

It's also no surprise if he favors a move to Spain. Liverpool has a good record of bringing young players through, so if the Reds are interested, he'd be wise to keep a move to Merseyside as an option.
