Former Everton manager Sean Dyche admits that the “heavy lifting” he’s had to do in recent jobs ensures he’s not rushing back into the dugout.

Previous Blues owner Farhad Moshiri churned through eight bosses in as many years at Goodison Park but his final appointment – although the ECHO understands it was late chairman Bill Kenwright who pushed for Dyche with the majority shareholder preferring Marcelo Bielsa – but the Kettering-born gaffer ended up being the longest serving, taking charge of 84 matches.

Dyche, who previously enjoyed a tenure at Burnley that lasted almost a decade, took charge of Everton on January 30, 2023, when they were second bottom of the Premier League. Despite posting what was the lowest equivalent points total in the club’s history, they avoided a first relegation in 72 years by a single Abdoulaye Doucoure goal to defeat Bournemouth 1-0 on the final day.

The following season, the Blues suffered an unprecedented brace of points deductions, but Dyche again steered them to safety with a haul that would have seen them finish 12th had it not been for sporting sanctions. However, he departed Goodison Park at the midway point of Everton’s final campaign at their home since 1892 having taken just 17 points from the first 19 matches to be replaced by David Moyes.

Asked about when he might return, the 55-year-old told talkSPORT: “We’ll see. First thing’s first, it’s not easy to get any jobs in football. So you’ve got to first of all, get a job.

“But it’s also got to be one that you want. The last few have been tough going. It’s been heavy lifting when you’re at clubs that need almost bailing out, and sort of stripping back and getting going again.

“It’s enjoyable. Very enjoyable in one way, but it is heavy lifting.

“So we’ll see. But at the moment, I’m quite enjoying doing all kinds of different things.

Dyche, whose first managerial post was at Watford and his last a 115-day stint at Nottingham Forest last season, was asked if he missed being in the dugout and said: “Yeah, but I’ve done it for a long time.

“I still keep myself active. I mean, I’m still watching my son (Max Dyche, 23, is a defender at Northampton Town) when I can and watching a few games when I can, I’m going down to Merthyr Tydfil with Jonny Owen.

“We’re going to do a sort of talk to raise some funds for them. So, there’s all sorts I’m getting involved with. I’m quite enjoying that side of it.

“But you know what it’s like, never say never in football. The phone rings and you might just go, yep, come on and let’s go.”
