Barcelona have secured the future of one of La Masia’s promising midfielders, with Pedro Rodriguez agreeing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old has already signed the agreement, with only the official announcement now pending.

His previous deal was due to expire in 2027, making the renewal an important step for the club.

Barcelona secure Pedro Rodriguez’s future

Pedro has committed to a four-year extension after choosing to remain at Barcelona despite interest from several major European clubs in recent years.

The midfielder joined La Masia in 2019 at the age of 11 and has gradually moved through the club’s youth structure.

He made his Barça Atlètic debut in 2024, featuring three times during that campaign before making a couple more appearances the following season.

The current campaign offers a fresh opportunity, as Pedro is registered with the reserve side and has been given a squad number, although his involvement has so far been limited.

Pedro faces competition for Barça Atlètic minutes

Pedro was left out of the squad for the opening league fixture before appearing from the bench in each of the next three games.

His situation could now change as Barça Atlètic prepare for the weekend.

The reserve side has considerable depth in midfield, meaning regular starts are difficult to secure. Pedro understands the competition and is prepared to wait for his opportunities rather than rush his development.

On that note, the absence of Pedro Villar could help. The midfielder is expected to spend around two months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, while Ebrima Tunkara also needs a few more days before returning to team training.

Considering the situation, it is only natural for the midfielder to feel that his opportunities must rise.

With Villar unavailable and the midfield picture temporarily changing, Pedro could finally have the opening he has been waiting for.
