More than 100 Everton supporters will be waking up at the Hill Dickinson this morning after braving the conditions overnight for the club’s 10th anniversary Stadium Sleepout.
Evertonians spent Friday night sleeping out at the club’s new home to raise money for Everton in the Community’s Home Is Where The Heart Is programme, which supports young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The club shared its support for those taking part before they settled down for what was always intended to be an uncomfortable night.
Evertonians complete anniversary sleepout
Friday’s event marked a decade of the Stadium Sleepout, which has become an established part of Everton in the Community’s fundraising calendar.
Everton posted on X on Friday evening:
“More than 100 Evertonians will be braving the conditions tonight by taking part in the 10th-anniversary edition of our Stadium Sleepout, raising funds for @EITC’s Home Is Where The Heart Is programme.”
Those supporters should now be emerging from their night at the Hill Dickinson, having swapped the comfort of home for one night in considerably more challenging surroundings.
The discomfort is temporary, but the cause behind it is not. Home Is Where The Heart Is provides accommodation and wider support for young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, helping them towards greater stability and independent living.
Fundraising also continues after the sleepout itself. Supporters who want to contribute can donate through the official Everton in the Community Stadium Sleepout JustGiving page.
For those who took part, Saturday morning should bring a warm drink, some breakfast and, presumably, the prospect of a rather more comfortable night’s sleep later. For those who sleep rough, there is no such luxury.
A night in the cold at the Hill Dickinson has helped raise money for young people for whom finding somewhere safe to sleep isn’t simply a one-night challenge.
