_“They had made proposals this summer. But to be perfectly honest, they will sign a new contract with him. It’s one of those where I think there’s very little chance that it doesn’t end up with a contract being signed._
_“So, even with negotiation, and a bit of disruption, I would put quite a lot on the fact that it will happen.”_
**Alexis Mac Allister deserves new deal after great response**
--------------------------------------------------------------
Mac Allister could easily have sulked about the situation and not knuckled down this season, but instead, he has been Liverpool’s best midfielder, responding to a terrible 2025/26 campaign by his standards
There has been more energy to the Argentine’s game, and a lot more all-round influence, including two brilliantly taken goals in the wins at home to Atletico Madrid and Tottenham.
On this form, offering Mac Allister a new deal makes complete sense, especially as he has made it clear he is happy at Liverpool, with [Conor Bradley](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/its-joy-play-alexis-mac-allister-i-cant-praise-him-enough) outlining what a great teammate he is in the past:
_“He’s just an unbelievable footballer. I’ve never seen someone retain the ball so well. He’s so calm on the ball and he’s so composed. He’s just a wonderful footballer and he’s a joy to play with. I can’t praise him enough, to be honest.”_
Granted, Mac Allister turns 28 later this year and has shown signs of losing pace – he has never been the fastest, in fairness – but he remains a superb option when the midfield has balance to it.
Gravenberch and Szoboszlai have both been frustrating in a double pivot this season, whereas the World Cup winner has shone, and he should continue to start regularly under Andoni Iraola.
Liverpool’s head coach surely sees the importance of retaining Mac Allister’s services, both in terms of his ability and his mentality, and as things stand, Borson is right in saying a contract extension feels more likely than not.
