Jeremy Jacquet’s rapid rise has continued at both club and international level, with the Liverpool defender now firmly establishing himself as one of the most exciting young centre-backs in European football.

The 21-year-old officially became a Liverpool player during the summer after the Reds completed an agreement with Stade Rennais earlier this year.

Having spent the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign in France, Jacquet arrived at Anfield with 33 senior appearances for Rennes and 24 more from a loan spell with Clermont Foot.

There has been little sign of a settling-in period since his arrival on Merseyside.

Jacquet has quickly adapted to Andoni Iraola’s side and has already produced several impressive performances, including a Player of the Match display during Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth.

His form was rewarded with a first senior France call-up by new manager Zinedine Zidane, having previously represented his country through the youth ranks.

Jacquet subsequently made his long-awaited senior debut against Belgium in the Nations League, starting the game and playing the full 90 minutes as France secured a 1-0 victory and kept a clean sheet.

Following another encouraging performance from the Liverpool defender, this time against ItalZidane was asked for his assessment of Jacquet and was full of praise for what he had seen from the youngster.

“Very good. Very, very good. Brave. Not afraid to come way out. Very good in the duel. He was once again very good,” Zidane said.

The comments underline the impression Jacquet has already made on his new international manager, particularly with his willingness to defend aggressively and step forward from the back.

Jacquet’s emergence has therefore been remarkably swift.

Just months after completing his move from Rennes, he is now playing regularly for Liverpool and has established himself as a senior France international under one of the greatest players in his country’s history.

For Liverpool, his continued development represents another major positive from the early stages of the Iraola era.

Zinédine Zidane a visiblement trouvé Jérémy Jacquet très bon (x4) 🤣
