Pickford numbers underline Everton message before England return

Everton have underlined Jordan Pickford’s excellent start to the season by highlighting the numbers behind their goalkeeper’s opening five Premier League appearances.

The Blues pointed to three clean sheets, an 83 per cent save percentage and a Premier League Save of the Month award as Pickford prepares to return to England’s starting XI against Croatia on Saturday.

It follows Pickford’s own message earlier in the day that he isn’t slowing down and believes he is “only getting better” at the age of 32.

Pickford numbers back up Everton message

Three clean sheets from Everton’s opening five Premier League games have helped David Moyes’s side make another solid defensive start.

Pickford has conceded only three league goals and saved 15 of the 18 shots on target he has faced, giving him a save percentage of just over 83 per cent.

There has already been individual recognition too. His superb stop from Eddie Nketiah against Crystal Palace earned August’s Premier League Save of the Month award, taking Pickford to a record five victories since the prize was introduced.

David Raya moved outright second by winning September’s award on Friday, but the Arsenal goalkeeper remains one behind Pickford on four.

It continues a remarkable run of recognition for the Everton goalkeeper. Pickford also won the Premier League Save of the Season award in 2025/26 for his stoppage-time save from Sandro Tonali against Newcastle United, becoming the first goalkeeper to win that award twice.

The numbers provide some substance to Pickford’s assertion that his game is still improving.

As we reported earlier, Pickford pointed to the longevity of goalkeepers such as Gianluigi Buffon and Manuel Neuer when discussing how much longer he could continue at the highest level.

His immediate focus now switches back to England, with Thomas Tuchel set to restore Pickford for Saturday’s Nations League meeting with Croatia after James Trafford started the previous two internationals.

For Evertonians, he returns to international duty with his club form making a strong case of its own.
