Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez for Hungary
Milos Kerkez has enjoyed a memorable moment on the international stage after scoring his first goal for Hungary, with Liverpool teammate Dominik Szoboszlai unable to resist taking a humorous swipe at the full-back afterwards.
Kerkez has managed to establish himself as a key figure since making the move to Liverpool, having taken the next step in his career after several impressive seasons in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old has also continued to play a key role for Hungary, where he has become a regular presence on the left side of the defence.
His latest appearance provided Kerkez with a moment to remember, as the Liverpool defender found the back of the net with a header to open his international goalscoring account as Hungary beat Georgia 1-0 last night in their latest UEFA Nations League outing.
It was a particularly important contribution for Hungary, who had found themselves in a difficult contest despite creating numerous opportunities.
Speaking after the match, Szoboszlai reflected on Hungary’s performance and admitted there were mixed emotions at half-time, before highlighting the fighting spirit shown by his teammates.
The Liverpool midfielder was particularly pleased to see Kerkez make the difference, although he admitted that the defender finding the net was perhaps the last thing he expected.
“I was very happy!” Szoboszlai said, as quoted by Blikk.
“Kerkez’s header would have been the last thing I expected, but I was very happy!”
However, Szoboszlai could not resist adding a typically playful remark about his Liverpool teammate, offering a brutally honest assessment of Kerkez’s decision-making.
“Sometimes he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he always puts his heart and soul out there,” the midfielder joked.
Despite the light-hearted dig, Szoboszlai’s comments ultimately highlighted exactly what Kerkez brings to Hungary, with his determination and commitment proving crucial in a hard-fought victory.
The Liverpool pair will soon return to club football having shared another memorable moment together on international duty, with Kerkez able to celebrate his first Hungary goal alongside one of his teammates from Anfield.
