Record-breaking Liverpool attacker suffers injury blow

Liverpool FC Women have been dealt an injury blow with one of their summer arrivals ruled out of Saturday’s Barclays Women’s Super League meeting with Manchester United.

The Reds travelled to Manchester looking to build on their encouraging start to the 2026/27 campaign, with Gareth Taylor’s side showing significant signs of improvement during the opening weeks of the season.

However, there was one notable absence from the squad, with Vivien Endemann missing out after picking up an issue that has now ruled her out of action.

The Germany international has made an immediate impression since arriving at Liverpool from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer, quickly establishing herself as an important figure in Taylor’s attacking setup.

Endemann has started all four of Liverpool’s WSL matches so far this season, registering two goals and two assists in 307 minutes of league football.

Her influence was particularly clear during the opening weeks of the campaign, with the 24-year-old becoming the first player in WSL history to score and assist in two of her first three appearances in the competition.

Only Manchester City’s Khadija Shaw had more goal involvements than Endemann during that early stage of the campaign, highlighting just how quickly the new signing had adapted to English football.

Endemann arrived at Liverpool following three seasons with Wolfsburg, where she made 60 appearances and recorded 15 goals and nine assists across all competitions.

She also brought considerable international experience, having represented Germany at senior level and won an Olympic bronze medal in Paris in 2024.

Her absence therefore represents a setback for Taylor, particularly given the attacking improvements Liverpool have shown this season.

The Reds have already scored seven goals in their opening three league matches, a tally they did not reach until their first ten WSL games last season and Endemann was a big part of that.

Liverpool have now confirmed that Endemann has sustained a minor calf injury, with the problem also forcing her to withdraw from the Germany squad for the forthcoming international window.

The forward has already begun her recovery at the AXA Melwood Training Centre, with Liverpool yet to provide a specific timeframe for her return.

For now, the Reds will hope Endemann’s issue proves to be a short-term setback, with her early-season contribution underlining her importance to Taylor’s plans.
