Arsenal have stepped up their interest in a highly rated young defender after reports suggest his plans for next summer could take him away from Real Madrid. The player is Como centre-back Jacobo Ramón, whose form in Serie A has attracted attention from several Premier League clubs. Tuttomercatoweb via Transfer Feed reports that Arsenal have already made approaches, while Chelsea continue to monitor the situation.
Ramón, 21, has become a regular for Cesc Fàbregas’ Como side since joining from Madrid in 2025. The 1.95-metre-tall defender has started every Serie A match for Como this season and has scored once across five league appearances. His passing has caught particular attention too. UEFA recorded a 93% passing accuracy in his Champions League appearance, while his Serie A numbers show 324 successful passes from 360 attempts, according to Sky Sport.
Why do Arsenal like Ramón so much?
Arsenal can see reasons to keep tabs on him. Ramón offers height, carries the ball confidently and can move possession forward. He ranks in the 90th percentile for forward-pass completion and the 76th percentile for progressive passes among centre-backs. His defensive duel numbers, however, leave room for improvement, so the Gunners would need to judge his development rather than treat him as a finished product.
The contractual picture could make negotiations awkward. Real Madrid sold Ramón to Como for €2.5 million in 2025 but retained 50% of his rights, with buy-back provisions. Madrid could still exercise a buy-back option in 2027, and the club retains a 50% share of any future sale. That arrangement gives Madrid significant influence over Ramón’s next move.
Could Arsenal make the call on Jacobo Ramón?
For Arsenal, this looks like a move worth pursuing if the recruitment team believes Ramón can develop into a long-term starter. William Saliba and Gabriel give Arteta established options, yet defensive depth matters across a long campaign. Ramón’s age, size and ability with the ball offer plenty to work with.
There is a catch. Arsenal would need clarity on Madrid’s rights and Como’s valuation before committing serious money. Ramón’s reported preference for regular football could help the Gunners, particularly if Madrid cannot offer him a clear route into their first-team plans.
Chelsea’s interest adds competition, but Arsenal should push the conversation forward rather than wait for the market to become crowded. The Jacobo Ramon Arsenal link deserves attention. Meanwhile, there have been murmurs regarding the future of Viktor Gyökeres as well, as we get closer to the January transfer window.
This transfer rumour may seem strange given the depth Arsenal have at centre-back but the Gunners are always looking to sign young players and send them on loan to develop at they did so successfully with William Saliba.
