Liverpool were linked with a summer move to sign Barcelona star Alejandro Balde on loan, and have now learned a deal could be possible in January.
The 2026/27 Premier League season began with both Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong struggling.
Andoni Iraola has since dropped Frimpong for Ronald Araujo to play out of position at right back, while Kerkez retained his spot. The Hungarian is a much better player than Frimpong, but pressure remains for him to raise his standards.
Kerkez has improved markedly since the 2-2 draws with Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, but the media continues to link Liverpool with new left-backs.

Balde to Liverpool
In September, a report from SPORT journalist Jordi Gil suggested that the Reds are interested in Balde, and that they are keeping a close eye on his situation at Barcelona.
Balde is struggling to find regular time under Hansi Flick. This season, the 22-year-old has played just 12 minutes in all competitions, making a substitute appearance in the 7-2 win over Racing Santander in La Liga.

His last appearance before the cameo off the bench was in a 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid at the start of March, meaning he had to wait over six months to make an appearance for Barca. He missed a month of football aftet getting injured against Atletico, but remains out of favour with Flick.
Now, TEAMtalk reports that Liverpool are one of the clubs paying close attention as Barcelona are prepared to let Balde leave on loan when the January transfer window opens. After the initial success of Araujo’s loan move to Anfield, Liverpool may be keen to repeat their trick.
Graeme Bailey reports: “Balde’s camp and intermediaries are already working hard on options away from Catalunya, with sources confirming that Barcelona have given the defender permission to explore a move elsewhere.
“Balde’s current contract at the Nou Camp runs until 2028, but there have been no discussions over a new deal, further increasing the uncertainty surrounding his long-term future.
“Liverpool have been offered the opportunity to sign Balde, with intermediaries sounding out potential destinations for the Barcelona defender.
“Balde is open to the prospect of moving to England, with a number of other Premier League clubs also having been approached about a possible deal.”
