Germany star Aleksandar Pavlovic has revealed exactly how the national team has been trying to get the most out of Florian Wirtz, as the Liverpool star looks to recapture some of his best form.

The playmaker has joined up with the side after a disappointing start to the campaign with the Reds, registering just one assist to his name so far this season.

That follows a difficult time last season too, after making an expensive move from Bayer Leverkusen to Anfield. Some criticism of the midfielder has followed, with plenty of doubts surrounding his ability to make a real impression while at Liverpool.

The international break may have come at an ideal time, because if anyone can get Wirtz back to his best, it's former Reds boss and current Germany head coach Jurgen Klopp.

For the freshly extended three-week international break, the manager decided to name two different squads to play across the four games. Wirtz wasn't named in the first group, but he was called up early after some key injuries in the side, featuring from the bench against Greece in the second game of the break.

Then he started in the third, a 2-0 win over Serbia, where the 23-year-old scored the second goal of the match to help seal all three points for Klopp's side.

After recent praise from the German boss and some of his teammates, Bayern Munich star Pavlovic has explained how the team is trying to unlock the best out of Wirtz.

He told the press, ahead of the upcoming UEFA Nations League clash with Greece: "It was incredibly fun playing alongside Tom [Bischof] and Flo [Wirtz, against Serbia]. You can see that we all have a lot of quality on the ball. We complemented each other well defensively, too.

"On the ball, Flo obviously has complete freedom, and we try to get the ball to him as much as possible"

While it's just one performance, it perhaps shows the way Liverpool has to go to get Wirtz into games, with the playmaker yet to truly take a match by the horns and turn it around.

There is clearly still some hope, but with a team filled with so many stars, plenty of them will be looking to get on the ball to unlock matches as well.

That is part of the challenge for Andoni Iraola, finding a balance that will get the most out of everyone, while also ensuring that Liverpool is still picking up results.

It remains to be seen how that will play out for Wirtz, who has the perfect opportunity to show his quality with a clash against Manchester City upon a return to Anfield.
