Romeo Doubs Talks Early Struggles with Patriots

Romeo Doubs is a reliable receiver who can help the [Patriots](https://nesn.com/new-england-patriots) score more touchdowns. When he signed with New England, it wasn’t expected how important he would become after A.J. Brown got injured early in the season.

Given Drake Maye’s recent struggles and several injuries, someone will need to step up. Doubs may have to be that player, both for the Patriots’ chances this season and for his own sake.

After four years with the Packers, Doubs signed a four-year, $68 million contract with the Patriots. In his first game with New England, he was held without a catch on three targets against the Seahawks. He got a pass interference penalty against the Jaguars and caught three passes.

There are signs of brilliance. Doubs caught three passes for 96 yards against the Steelers. Nothing comes easy. Doubs understands this. He aims to prove his value his own way.

"Anything in this league isn't easy to do. I wouldn't say that's just football; it's everywhere. You have to work hard for whatever it is you want in life. I'm staying true to my process," Doubs said [via ESPN](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/50087681/patriots-romeo-doubs-bills-game).

With Brown out for a few weeks, Maye has attempted to spread the love. He’s thrown to nine different receivers during some games. It hasn’t quite helped, as he has seven turnovers in three games after eight all of last year.

The transition to a new team isn’t easy. Doubs continues to learn and will attempt to earn a connection with Maye.

"It's a grind. It's not something I expected to happen quickly," Doubs said. "Being in a new offense, it's a process. I'm staying true to it, and I look forward to my day-to-day work."
