England thumped Croatia 7-0 in the Nations League on Saturday evening.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford started for Thomas Tuchel’s side, replacing James Trafford as the number one.
Tuchel was urged to bring back Pickford into the starting line-up, and he obliged, so clearly the Toffees talisman remains a big part of his plans going forward.
With that said, we’ve had a closer look at how the national media reacted to his performance in Rijeka last night.
Jordan Pickford had an easy night vs Croatia
Pickford kept his 47th clean sheet for England as he chases down the all-time record holder Peter Shilton on 66.
The media gave their verdict on his performance, and they all said the same thing.
Here’s what The Telegraph had to say.
6/10 – “Could watch his teammates move through the gears safely from his own penalty area, with no shots to save until the match was effectively over in the second half.”
The Mirror stated.
6/10 – “Had a quiet night other than a few anxious moments but happily took a clean sheet.”
The Standard added.
6/10 – “Kept a clean sheet but had very little to do on his return to the team.”
The Express continued.
6/10 – “The stadium wasn’t too far away from the beach and the England goalkeeper might as well have brought a deck chair, given how little he had to do.”
Based on that performance, Tuchel has no reason to drop Pickford, so hopefully the Everton shot-stopper retains his spot in the starting 11 for the final clash this international break.
England play host to Czechia on the sixth of October at Wembley before Premier League action resumes next weekend.
Everton’s first game back is away at high-flying Hull City on the 11th of October, so it’s a tricky game for David Moyes’ side.
