Everton fans have been discussing which former player they’d love to bring back to David Moyes’ team.
Everton fans recently debated who the most underrated player is from the Premier League era, with Mikel Arteta and Gareth Barry getting mentions, amongst others.
Now, on TalkingPoints, we have asked our audience another throwback question, and interestingly, the responses were all the same.
Everton fans all agree they’d pick Romelu Lukaku to come back
Given Everton’s lack of depth up front, with Thierno Barry the only senior striker at the football club, fans all selected Romelu Lukaku.
Freddie believes Lukaku’s physicality is much-needed right now, and clearly the Belgian frontman is a Moyes-esque number nine.
George.Patten joked that he’d be a slight upgrade on Barry, although in fairness to the Frenchman, he’s improved dramatically this season.
Barry has netted five goals in just seven outings, so he’s beginning to show exactly why he was bought for £30m from Villarreal.
DaviesCallum42 also said Lukaku and explained that he’s never been properly replaced since leaving for Manchester United in 2017.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a good spell a few years after, but didn’t sustain a consistent level and departed for Leeds United in 2025.
Anthonybrabin10 actually decided against Lukaku’s return, as he selected Tim Cahill or Thomas Gravesen.
Gravesen was a brilliant box-to-box midfielder, although Moyes is well stocked in the engine room, particularly with the emergence of Harrison Armstrong this season.
Cahill would certainly be a good fit for this current side, as Moyes needs another source of goals from midfield.
The Australian, who operated mainly as an attacking midfielder, scored 68 goals whilst laying on 34 assists in 278 appearances for the Toffees.
Cahill recently defended the Friedkin Group after the disastrous summer transfer window. That didn’t go down well with supporters, but nevertheless he remains a modern-day legend.
