Liverpool’s plan for Conor Bradley revealed despite Ronald Araujo’s recent heroics

Ronald Araujo has quickly emerged as a reliable option at right-back, with his recent performances helping Andoni Iraola’s side rediscover some defensive stability.

The Barcelona loanee has impressed since being given a run in the position, bringing a more defence-first approach to the role while still providing Liverpool with the physicality required to operate effectively on the flank.

His contribution has been particularly noticeable in recent weeks.

Liverpool have now kept three successive Premier League clean sheets, a feat they had not achieved since the beginning of their title-winning 2024/25 campaign, when they shut out Ipswich Town, Brentford and Manchester United.

Araujo has played an important part in that improvement and his recent displays have inevitably raised questions over what the future could hold for the right-back position.

The Uruguayan’s performances have come at a time when Liverpool have had to contend with a number of different options in the position.

Before suffering a serious knee injury against Arsenal in January, Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez had all been deployed at right-back, while Dominik Szoboszlai was also asked to fill the role on several occasions.

For now, Araujo appears to have given Iraola another solution, particularly with Bradley still some way from returning to full fitness.

However, despite the 27-year-old’s recent heroics, Liverpool’s thinking beyond the immediate future appears to be rather different.

According to Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst, the long-term view at Anfield is that Bradley will be given the time and space to establish himself at right-back once he is fit again.

The Northern Ireland international’s aggression and athleticism are regarded as an ideal combination for the position, with those qualities offering Liverpool a different way of creating an effective right-back.

Bradley remains some way off a return, meaning Araujo’s importance is unlikely to diminish in the immediate future.

But while the loanee continues to make his case with every appearance, Liverpool appear to have already formed a clear idea of what they want to happen when Bradley is eventually ready to return.
