‘Damaging’ - Alan Shearer doubles down on Man City attack as Newcastle United watch on

Alan Shearer is not happy after Manchester City were found guilty of breaching the Premier League rules.

Alan Shearer has reiterated that the Premier League must act swiftly to sanction Manchester City.

The football world was rocked when news broke that City had been found guilty of all but one charge relating to financial regulations. With the top flight season paused due to the extended international break, the case has been the only story in town.

Newcastle United have adhered to the rules - much to their frustration - stringently since the Saudi-backed takeover. Toon chiefs will now be watching closely to see what punishment Man City face should they lose the appeal.

Alan Shearer doubles down

Shearer immediately called for the situation to be resolved quickly once the news broke. He has now doubled down while assessing how the City players will be feeling ahead of the Premier League resumption.

“It’s imperative for the Premier League and everyone that this is sorted ASAP,” Shearer told The Rest Is Football. “It’s not going to go away until the sanctions are put upon them. I guess they’ll appeal, but it’s so damaging for the game.

“The ramifications are staggering where this could lead to. The scale and the size of this, will it affect the (Man City) players going into games? Mentally it would have to. The noise is so loud and isn’t going away.”

Alan Shearer reflects on Blackburn Rovers

Responding to a question criticising the rules, Shearer reflected on his own title win with Blackburn Rovers. He added: “I can relate because what we achieved at Blackburn would never be allowed today. We had an owner (Jack Walker) who was a local guy that became a self-made millionaire.

“He wanted to invest in his town and club that he supported. He put his own money into the club and helped us win the Premier League.

“That would never be allowed to happen nowadays. He was a genuine, down-toearth, self-made millionaire who wanted to buy his club.”
