Enzo Maresca has freely walked in to jobs with the risk of huge changes to appear, so why are they taking the risk?
Pep Guardiola made Man City the top club they are, not the owners. Some people believe footballers are coming in a package, ready to perform. The way this club has developed and build up a system and being innovative is beyond everything.
Martin O’Neill, when manager ot Leicester, was scouting on Danny Murphy, but missed out on him, instead he discovered Robbie Savage. Savage grabbing this opportunity with both hands.
He went from strength to strength and lifted his game to Premier League level in a very short time.
He became a steady first teamer, helping Leicester to two EFL Cup finals, first in 1999 a loss to Spurs, then in 2000 winning the trophy, playing Tranmere.
After a career end at Derby, having played at first team level with Crewe, Leicester, Birmingham, Blackburn and Brighton on loan, he started to work in punditry. Becoming a popular figure on the shows. As a player, his style of football was high energy filled with passion and pride, loved by his own, hated by the opponent.
His way into football management was coincidental, becoming the man to point at to take on the manager job at Macclesfield, when the phoenix club at lower amateur level needed a caretaker. Robbie Savage was part of a group running the club after a takeover, and he took the challenge.
The success he had at Macclesfield became noticed, as his management style resulted in a promotion and a historical unbeatable run of games.
Robbie Savage decided to join Forest Green Rovers, becoming their manager in 2025. He has managed to bring that club forward, missing promotion as part of the play-off’s..
He climbed the league ladder as a player, now he is doing the same as a manager, having a no fear mentality and just following his gut feeling as an approach of no fear.
Will be interesting to follow his route as he at the age of 51, turning 52 on the 18th of October, he is climbing the same mountains he did as a player. A different route, soon coming back to Leicester, a place he knows better than most of the people on the other bench in that game.
We wish Robbie Savage all the best on his new journey, but hopes are he will miss out on the points in his first league game in charge of The Posh..
