The Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Derrick Harmon avoided a long-term injury after being carted off during Thursday night's 27-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Harmon suffered a foot injury in the second quarter and was ruled out after initially being listed as questionable to return. He was seen wearing a walking boot on his left foot after the game.

However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Harmon is expected to miss only a few weeks. The Steelers could place him on injured reserve, but that decision has not been made. The injury is not expected to keep him out for an extended period.

“#Steelers DT Derrick Harmon, who was carted off on Thursday night with a foot injury, is expected to miss a few weeks, source said. IR would be a consideration for Harmon, though it’s not definite. Either way, not a long-term injury,” Rapoport tweeted.

The update provides some relief for Pittsburgh after Harmon had emerged as an important part of its defensive front. The Steelers selected the Oregon product No. 21 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, and he has continued to develop into the player the team expected when it made the pick.

Harmon delivered one of his biggest plays of the season during Pittsburgh's Week 3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He strip-sacked Joe Burrow late in the 30-27 victory, with Sebastian Joseph-Day recovering the loose ball.

Losing Harmon for a few weeks will still test Pittsburgh's defensive-line depth, but the injury update gives the Steelers a clearer path forward. The team now has a mini bye before facing the Indianapolis Colts on October 11, giving Harmon additional time to recover.
