Former England and Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has claimed that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is not currently the best forward in the PL, and insists that Liverpool's Alexander Isak is.
Erling Haaland has been a revelation since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. He has netted 169 goals in 205 appearances in all competitions for the Sky Blues since his move. He has scored more than a hundred times in the PL alone and is closing in on club icon Sergio Aguero's scoring record.
While Sheringham expressed his admiration for the Norwegian attacker, he claimed that Liverpool's Alexander Isak is the league's best striker. He also added that he wanted to see the Swedish attacker win the PL Golden Boot award at the end of the season. Speaking to Hajper, he said (via Metro UK):
"He was obviously not right last season, but the whole situation at Liverpool was wrong, even down to playing two centre-forwards, and it just didn’t work for anyone. For me, he’s the best striker in the Premier League. He is phenomenal. I’d like to see him win the Golden Boot this year, and not just to beat Erling Haaland but for the way that Isak plays the game, and how hungry he is for goals."
He then added that Isak's demeanor after a tough first season with Liverpool has changed. He said:
"I like his demeanor on the pitch. He wants to score goals, and he can score goals, and his goals against Ipswich Town were fantastic. That should get the rest of the Premier League worried this season, I love it. He looks back to his very best, sharp shooting, getting it out of his feet and… bang, goal!"
Erling Haaland and Isak will have a chance to face off against each other at the end of the international break. Manchester City will take on Liverpool as the Mancunian club travels to Merseyside for what promises to be a mouthwatering clash.
Erling Haaland's preferred transfer destination after Manchester City charges come to light: Reports
Erling Haaland reportedly prefers a move to Paris Saint-Germain ahead of Arsenal, should Manchester City be punished severely for their financial breaches.
According to Le Parisien (via football.london), the Parisians see Haaland as the potential successor to Ousmane Dembele, who turns 30 next year and could be on his way out of the club amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
