Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Alex Scott, with the club potentially facing competition from two of their biggest domestic rivals for his signature.
The Reds have continued to monitor developments surrounding the Bournemouth midfielder, who has established himself as an important player on the south coast since making the move from Bristol City.
Scott has also continued to develop on the international stage and is now regarded as one of England’s emerging midfield talents.
Liverpool’s interest could be particularly significant given the presence of Andoni Iraola at Anfield.
The Spaniard worked closely with Scott during his time as Bournemouth head coach and will know the midfielder’s qualities better than most.
According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Liverpool are among the clubs tracking Scott, while Arsenal are also believed to hold an interest in the 23-year-old.
However, the Reds are currently not considered to be at the front of the queue.
Law reports that Chelsea are leading the race for Scott after making more than one attempt to sign him during the summer transfer window.
The London club reportedly saw bids worth more than £60 million rejected by Bournemouth in the summer, who remained determined to keep hold of the midfielder.
Despite those failed approaches, Chelsea’s interest has not disappeared.
Bournemouth have been adamant that Scott will not be sold during the January transfer window, meaning any potential move may have to wait until the summer.
That could make the situation particularly interesting for Liverpool, with Scott set to enter the final year of his Bournemouth contract at the end of the current campaign.
The midfielder’s contractual situation could therefore become an important factor in determining his future, particularly if Bournemouth continue to resist offers during January.
Liverpool have already been linked with midfield reinforcements and Scott is not the only Bournemouth player attracting attention from Andoni Iraola’s side.
For now, Chelsea appear to have the advantage in the race for Scott, but Liverpool’s existing relationship with Iraola could ensure they remain firmly in the picture.
