NY Giants’ QB J.J. McCarthy is active for game vs. Arizona Cardinals

Newly-acquired quarterback **J.J. McCarthy** is active on Sunday for the New York Giants against the Arizona Cardinals. It is uncertain whether McCarthy will be the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback.

The Giants elevated quarterback Jake Haener and edge defender Trace Ford from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

Could the Giants have a package of plays in Sunday’s game plan for McCarthy? Here is what offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said about that possibility earlier this week.

“It depends. I think every quarterback’s a little bit different,” Nagy said. “I think when you judge that process is, okay, what’s most realistic to get him ready to be a backup, right? That’s where you start, and that’s where we’re at, and that process takes some time. And there’s a little bit of realization in knowing it’s not going to happen in one or two days. I think that’s only fair, but we just got to see each and every day how much can he handle, and then we continue to throw more and more at him, and then we got to make our own judgment on, now, what is he doing on the field, and where does that take him as a number two or number three?”

With no players on the 53-man roster missing the game due to injuries, the New York Giants have seven healthy scratches for Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Running back Devin Singletary is inactive, with Tyrone Tracy serving as the third back.

Newly-signed outside linebacker Jihad Ward will be inactive. That is likely why the Giants elevated Ford from the practice squad.

With cornerback Deonte Banks and safety Tyler Nubin back in action this week, safety Ar’Darius Washington is inactive.
