Steven Gerrard has always left the door open when asked if he would ever manage Rangers again.

But the 55 title winner is adamant that he would never want to disrespect any other Light Blues boss by rocking up to Ibrox while someone else is in the hotseat - something his former deputy Michael Beale received flak for doing four years ago.

The Liverpool icon made a secret return to Ibrox last month to take in Rangers' 3-0 win over arch rivals Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup quarter final that has set Derek McInnes up with a reunion with old club Aberdeen in the last four.

Gerrard led Gers to the Premiership title in 2021 before moving onto Aston Villa and turned down the chance to manage the club again in October last year following Russell Martin's sacking.

The Scouser's ex assistant Beale succeeded Giovanni van Bronckhorst as Rangers boss in November 2022 after being snapped attending matches at Ibrox while the Dutchman was fighting hard to avoid the sack.

And Gerrard says he has far too much respect and admiration for the incumbent McInnes to make himself known at matches.

Asked about whether he would like to manage Gers again in a chat on Open Goal, Gerrard responded: "Who knows? Who knows? What I would say is I’ve been reluctant to come up for a certain amount of time and sit in the box with a suit on, because I don’t want to disrespect any manager that’s in position.

"I've got nothing but respect for Derek McInnes. He was one of the toughest challenges for us as a group of staff when he was at Aberdeen. I hope he does well.

"I hope the club go on and be successful where they maybe don’t need to come and ask someone like me. I follow Rangers, I follow the results. I love the club. I want Derek McInnes to be successful."

The England hero - who has also revealed he stopped Rangers from sacking a member of staff for leaking a video of their 55 title celebrations five years ago - was delighted to hear the Ibrox roar again in person as they crushed the Hoops 3-0 last month.

"I loved being at the game, I loved being in the box and peaking to Andy (Halliday) and Scott (Arfield)", he added. "They helped me set it up just to go in the box away and just watching a good Old Firm, and see it.

Pressed on if he plans to return to management, Gerrard stated: "At the moment, I’m happy. I’m doing TV for TNT. I’ve signed a new deal with TNT.

"I’ve got some other bits and bobs that I do, commercial stuff. I became a grandad a year ago so I’m doing all this stuff, I’m loving being around the family, I get enough time off. I love a bit of paddle, a bit of golf. My work life balance is great.

"But my family is back home now in Liverpool. I’ve had quite a few offers and chats with teams and stuff but at the moment, I’m really happy with what I’m doing."
