Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has shown just how much of a Tottenham fan he is, singing the praises of former Spurs stars Harry Kane and Luka Modric.

Of the 15 Tottenham Hotspur players to have earned call-ups this international break, none were part of Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

James Maddison and Dominic Solanke, who have represented England in the past, were not called up this time and instead remained at Hotspur Way with Roberto De Zerbi, continuing their work with Spurs.

England, however, have coped well without Tottenham representation, winning two of their three matches this international break, with their only defeat coming against Spain.

Their most recent outing against Croatia was an emphatic one, with the Three Lions thrashing Luka Vuskovic and his teammates 7-0.

Former Tottenham striker Harry Kane scores twice in England win

Former Tottenham man Harry Kane featured in that encounter and got himself on the scoresheet with a brace. Alex Scott, a lifelong Spurs fan, also made his first start for England in the match and impressed with his performance.

Speaking about how he ended up a Tottenham fan, the young midfielder said back in 2024: “Literally my dad. And then I fell in love with Tottenham as a kid. So yeah, they’re my club!…[The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium] was the perfect place to score my first ever goal”.

Scott was handed a 7.5 rating after playing 69 minutes. He had 81 touches, a pass accuracy of 92 per cent, five defensive contributions and won three of his four ground duels. As debuts go, it could hardly have been better for the 23-year-old, who also spoke about his admiration for Tottenham stars after the game.

In his post-match interview, Scott was asked about former Tottenham man Harry Kane, and the Bournemouth midfielder admitted he was not surprised by the striker’s quality, having always known his level.

He said: “Yeah, H is unbelievable…” asked if he was better than he thought, he added: “I knew he was ridiculous since I was a little boy, so I knew his level. But up close you can really see it – that is why he is being spoken about for Ballon d’Ors and things like that.”

Alex Scott praises Luka Modric and reflects on Spurs links

Kane isn’t the only former Tottenham player to have been tipped for the Ballon d’Or after leaving North London. Luka Modric found himself in a similar position back in 2018 and went on to win the award, famously ending the long‑standing dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Scott was also full of praise for the veteran midfielder, admitting it was surreal to share the pitch with the former Spurs star.

On playing against Modric, he said: “Yeah, it is pretty surreal to be fair. He’s probably one of my favourite players growing up. Like I said, seeing him as a boy – one of the best players in the world on his day. To be on the same pitch as him and competing with him was a great honour. Thankfully we got the win today.”

Tottenham were linked with a move for Scott last summer, but Bournemouth were unwilling to sell. Those links have resurfaced again, though Bournemouth remain adamant that he will not depart this winter. Unfortunately, Chelsea are said to be the ones leading the race for Scott either way.

The midfielder has started the new season brightly, already scoring one goal.
