‘Relaxed’ Tottenham reach verdict on Micky van de Ven’s future amid Liverpool interest

Tottenham Hotspur have failed to live up to the expectations of their supporters this season. They are winless in the Premier League and find themselves at the foot of the table after five games. Yet, that hasn’t stopped some of the Lilywhites’ key players from being linked with an exit.

Micky van de Ven is among the highly coveted commodities in the Premier League. Recent reports suggest Manchester United have been the Tottenham skipper their No.1 defensive target next summer. The Red Devils could face competition from their arch rivals Liverpool, who want the 25-year-old as a potential long-term replacement for their defensive stalwart Virgil van Dijk.

The Netherlands international only signed a new contract until 2031 in August and has since been made the North London club’s skipper following the sale of Cristian Romero to Atletico Madrid. This leaves Spurs in a strong position over his future.

Tottenham reach verdict on Micky van de Ven’s future amid Premier League interest

Transfer insider Pete O’Rourke claims that Tottenham currently have no plans to sell Micky van de Ven, while Liverpool are ‘preparing a move’ to sign him.

“Tottenham are quite relaxed about this,” Pete O’Rourke exclusively told Football Insider.

“They tied down Van de Ven to a new contract in August until 2031. So, look, Tottenham hold all the aces here, he’s been made club captain as well, so I can’t imagine they’ll be too keen to lose such a key player.

“Tottenham won’t be entertaining a sale anytime soon. Top players will always attract interest and have suitors, but he’s under a long-term contract at Tottenham and they’re planning for life with Mickey van de Ven.”

Spurs remain in strong position over Van de Ven’s future

Roberto De Zerbi and Spurs rate Van de Ven very highly and want to retain his services. The new contract illustrated the North London club’s trust in the Dutchman and their plans to build the defence around him. A battle could erupt between Liverpool and Manchester United for the 25-year-old in 2027.

Liverpool have invested big on rebuilding their midfield and attack over the last 12 months or so. However, there is still a lack of depth and quality in their backline, which they are looking to answer in 2027 by signing Van de Ven. As for Man United, they are eyeing the Tottenham star as a replacement for Harry Maguire, who is 33 and has become injury-prone in the last couple of years.

Well, the Hotspur Way chiefs are very clear with Van de Ven’s future. They do not want to sell him. However, if the Lilywhites have yet another underwhelming Premier League season, he could be on his way out, with interest in his services only likely to amplify.
