The Green Bay Packers continue to battle injuries during the 2026 season. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was carted off the field on Sunday during a game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has been ruled out for the rest of the game, per NFL insider Mike Garafolo.
Green Bay has been battered by injuries to the defense this season. Star Micah Parsons has been recovering from surgery, and other Packers defensive linemen have gone down.
Cooper's injury was listed as an Achilles issue by Garafolo. That caused immediate concern on Sunday.
“Edgerrin Cooper getting carted back to the Packers locker room. He went down at the snap without being touched. Everyone who watches this sport knows what that injury looked like. We'll see if there's an Achilles confirmation from the team, but a potential gut-punch for that D,” USA Today reporter Ryan Wood posted to X.
Cooper had a spectacular game on Sunday before getting hurt. He posted nine tackles, an interception and a sack. Green Bay's defense had been searching desperately for someone to step up and help lead, following Parsons' absence. It appears another leader is now out for that Green Bay defense.
Green Bay enters Sunday's game against Tampa Bay with a 1-2 record on the season. The Packers are playing a winless Tampa Bay team without starting quarterback Baker Mayfield. Rookie Jalon Daniels got the start for the Buccaneers on Sunday.
Sunday's contest is a big game for the Packers. A loss would drop them to 1-3 on the year. Green Bay is looking to return once again to the NFL Playoffs with quarterback Jordan Love.
The Packers and Buccaneers are playing at time of writing.
