Adding to their midfield options is likely to be on the agenda of the Liverpool recruitment team in 2027 after deciding not to make a signing during the summer.
The Reds sold Curtis Jones to Inter Milan, but with Trey Nyoni set to assume a bigger role, Andoni Iraola and Richard Hughes decided that they are satisfied with their current options.
That could change next year, especially if Alexis Mac Allister leaves, and according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is likely to be one to watch. They could face competition from Chelsea in particular, but according to Romano, Liverpool have already been in touch with Scott over a switch to Anfield.

Liverpool called to check on Scott
Liverpool were tentatively linked with Scott during the summer window after the 23-year-old delivered an exceptional season under Iraola. However, it soon became clear that he was going nowhere, leading to the rumours drying up.
Speaking on his YouTube channel on Sunday evening, though, Romano confirmed that Liverpool had looked into signing Scott by making contact with his representatives, and though Chelsea currently appear to be favourites to sign the England international, Liverpool seem to be still in the mix.
“On Alex Scott, what I can tell you is that Chelsea had one official approach, one official bid over the transfer window rejected by Bournemouth, they never wanted to sell Alex Scott.” the transfer expert said.
“The answer was the same to Chelsea, to Arsenal, some calls from Liverpool. Bournemouth always said no chance and the player stayed. In 2027 it could be a different story, most likely summer, but let’s see what happens in January. At the moment Bournemouth insist they want the player to complete the season and leave in summer 2027.”

“At the moment what I can tell you is that Chelsea are not forgetting about Alex Scott. Chelsea are on it and in contact with people close to the player.
“Liverpool, Andoni Iraola knows the player so well, Liverpool have been in connection with people close to the player over the summer but never put a bid on the table, so let’s see what’s going to happen with Liverpool. It’s going to be an interesting one to follow for 2027.”
Giving his own personal view of what could happen, Romano said that, for the time being, Chelsea’s interest is probably the strongest in a player who continues to grow in reputation.
“If you ask me today, Chelsea are really thinking of Alex Scott, because the whole summer was about him,” he said. “It was not possible, but he was a player Chelsea strongly considered, and I would not be surprised if they are back for him with official bids in 2027.”
Much of whether Liverpool join them is likely to depend on Mac Allister and whether he does make an exit, but the Reds could do with another addition in the eyes of most supporters, and Scott looks like a prime candidate.
